Just one of the things we love most about The Lavender Cookbook by Sharon Shipley, is that she's taken her 120 recipes and organized by not only by season, but also by dish type (appetizers, bread and rolls, beverages, soups, salads, entrées, side dishes, and desserts.) Somehow the recipes feel approachable and easy, yet sophisticated and oftentimes unexpected. Shrimp with Honey Lavender Marinade. Oatmeal Cookie Bars with Lavender Fig Cheesecake Filling. Or how about Lavender Coconut Pork Bites with a Spicy Lavender Coconut Peanut Sauce. Yes, please.
WHAT IS HYDROSOL?
WHAT IS HYDROSOL?
A hydrosol is the aromatic water collected during the steam distillation of plants. As essential oil is separated, the water retains the plant’s water-soluble aromatic compounds, creating a gentle, low-concentration botanical distillate.
Hydrosols are much lighter than essential oils and are typically used directly on skin. They’re meant to be misted generously—as toners, refreshers, or light body sprays—rather than diluted or blended.
If essential oil is the concentrated essence of lavender, a hydrosol is its softer, everyday counterpart.
